iTunes notes

Notes about iTunes.

Maximise the window

On OSX, the green maximise button can sometimes switch iTunes to mini player view instead of maximising it, depending on the version of iTunes.

To maximise, use the following key combination:

Cmd-Ctrl-z

The z stands for ‘zoom’.

Create keyboard shortcuts for rating music in iTunes

To create keyboard shortcuts to rate the current song in iTunes (From The MacTipper Blog: Add Keyboard Shortcuts for Rating Songs in iTunes):

  1. System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Application Shortcuts.
  2. Add a shortcut (hit the + button).
  3. Select iTunes as Application.
  4. In the Menu Title box, hit Cmd-Option-T (i.e. Cmd-Alt-T).
  5. Browse to Stars/Asterisks.
  6. Select the same star character as that used in iTunes.
  7. Click Insert to insert the star how ever many times as is necessary.
  8. Set the Keyboard Shortcut you’d like (e.g. Cmd-3 for 3 stars).
  9. For a shortcut that removes all stars set the Menu Title to None.

Sync iPhone with iTunes albums rated 4 stars plus

  1. Create a smart playlist, with the rule ‘Album Rating is greater than 3 stars’.
  2. In the music section of the iPhone page (which you get to by clicking on the device), select the playlist.
