To create a variable in oowriter 3.0.0...

Normal variables (i.e. single occurrence)

A normal variable can be inserted into the document. You double click it to edit its value.

  1. Insert -> Field -> Other.
  2. Variables tab.
  3. Set type to 'Set variable'.
  4. Choose the format.
  5. Input a name and value.
  6. Click Insert.
  7. Double click to edit.

User fields (i.e. repeated occurrences)

A User Field can be inserted in different locations in the document. When you edit one occurrence all other occurrences are updated automatically.

  1. Insert -> Field -> Other.
  2. Variables tab.
  3. Set type to 'User Field'.
  4. Choose the format.
  5. Input a name and value (value is optional).
  6. Click Insert.
  7. Select the variable in the Selection pane.
  8. Input a name and value.
  9. Click Insert.
  10. Double click to edit.
  11. From then on you can select the variable and insert it wherever you'd like. Editing one instance of the variable in the document will update all others.
