How to prevent Chrome tabs loading until selected

When you start Chrome it will load all tabs - very annoying and resource intensive if you’ve got lots of them.

To prevent this, install the FooTab extension. You’ll have to do this manually:

  1. Download FooTab from http://sourceforge.net/projects/footab/ via Files -> FooTab.crx.
  2. For pros: Unzip the FooTab.crx file and make sure it isn’t doing anything dodgy (it all looked fine when I checked).
  3. Open the Chrome extensions page via Customise (spanner icon) -> Settings -> Extensions.
  4. Drag the FooTab.crx file to the extensions page to install it.

Now when you restart Chrome the tabs should only load when you click on them.
